My husband, myself, his brother , and my sister-in-law was living in a two-bedroom shotgun house in Algiers of New Orleans, La. in around 2005, it was winter time or autumn. Anyway, it was the evening and we noticed that our neighbors were all on the sidewalk about a block away, some people were practically running around the corner.
My husband came home that afternoon and told me they were making a movie around the corner and he told my in-laws. I hurried to get dressed and we rushed around the corner. My husband told me that he'd also heard that L.L. Cool J was also rumored to be in the movie but we never saw him during the whole filming of the movie. They probably shot his scenes earlier than hers.
When we did go around the corner, we saw the movie's crew and Queen Latifah a few blocks away from us. She was pretending to walk up the street from work. She had on a brown trench coat and a black dress with a dark brown scarf, her hair was in a ponytail. The crew did that same scene around six times.
By late that evening, around eight o'clock, she and her son or neighbor from that movie was bringing up a grill around four more times. The directors and crew even tried to get other people like the watchers involved. They asked my brother-in-law and a woman's daughter to walk away in a scene but that wasn't put in the movie. They claimed they were going to pay him for that shot but it never happened. By eight thirty that night, they packed up and left the scene and on that same block remained a trailer for one of the actors.
When the movie was released on DVD, my husband and I saw it but it was nothing like we expected. It wasn't as good as we thought and it didn't focus on New Orleans as much as we thought. So, it was still a cool experience, though.
